Coming to today’s blog, you know Winter Season is coming (or must have already arrived in your city). Since winters are no fun for our skin I thought of curating my best proven tips that can help save your skin from drying out and other insane skin and hair problems that the skin suffers from. To reduce chapping, redness, itching, and keep skin more healthy and comfortable this season, try these tips.


Lukewarm, shorter showers are the best
No matter how comfortable we all are bathing in hot water little do we know it strips off the natural moisture from our skin brutally. It not only affects your skin ‘the bad way’ but contributes a lot in making your hair dry and frizzy.

Always remember – Lukewarm, shorter showers are the best.


UP your hand and feet care regimen
Did you know our hands are the first to age? It’s time to extend your skin care routine to your hands (and feet) which are the first to suffer in rough, winter weather. And because we wash them more often, they need the moisture more than ever.
Always moisturise your hands and feet as they tend to get dry the quickest. Pay attention to other dry areas like knees and elbows.

Carry a good, quality hand cream with you. Put it on after every wash. This is critical if you want soft, smooth, and young-looking hands. Avoid hand sanitizer if you can—most are alcohol-based, which dry out your skin. Exfoliate your hands during night time. You can do this every alternate day and put on an anti ageing lotion or a nourishing hand cream to protect them.
Step up your foot care regime by soaking your feet in warm water and add some epsom salt. This will soothe any foot pain and soften skin. Regularly buff the soles to keep them soft and healthy.

Sunscreen is always a MUST
DO NOT forget sunscreen. Winter sun can be just as damaging as summer sun. And it is time to understand that sunscreen is an year round necessity.

Winter’s harsh weather is incredibly drying and taxing on skin so slather on that sunscreen and use it to keep your skin radiant. The danger is even indoors. That’s why you need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the lights in your home, office, computer, laptop, and phone screens.


Keep ASIDE your summer beauty products
Chances are you are still using your summer cleansers and they are drying out your skin. Is it? It’s time to switch to cleansers that have hydrating & moisturizing ingredients. Increased moisture is the most common requirement.

After cleansing do not leave your skin naked for long, to avoid increased dryness. Immediately follow with a toner and moisturiser to seal in all the moisture. Your skin should feel soft, smooth, and comfortable. If you notice dryness, itchiness or something is off and you need to try something else.

Avoid using products that has mint, lemon, green tea extracts, neem in it. They are more summer specific ingredients.


Hydration is KEY
We tend to drink less water in winters as we tend to louvee? our chai’s & coffee’s a little more than usual. But hydration is a must inside out. 10 glasses of water a day should be your goal. You can also start your day with a glass of warm water mixed with few drops of lemon.

Switch to more hydrating and lubricating foods – even in winter! Watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and carrots are great. Make sure you’re getting enough vitamin C and zinc to support the healthy production of collagen and elastin–and consider an omega-3 supplement, or consume more fatty fish.


Go the DIY WAY
Homemade hydrating masks can provide much needed moisture in the winter months. Use natural moisturizing ingredients in your masks such as honey, olive oil, avocado, mashed ripe banana to get the perfect skin this winter.


Say YES to Body Care
You need to make your skin more moisturized during the winter season. Invest in body butters and good nourishing lotions with ingredients like shea butter to provide the necessary moisture to your body. Just like the face, our body needs some thirst replenishing creams as well.


AVOID Licking of Lips
Many of us have a horrible habit of licking/smacking our lips time and again. This not only leads to dryness but makes lips chapped and lifeless. Apply lip balms throughout the day in order to protect your lips from the harsh weather condition. A wide array of lip balms are available in the market these days from neutral to colored. If possible, use homemade lipscrubs/exfoliators to remove dead skin from your lips.

Haircare is ESSENTIAL
Our hair gets easily damaged during the winter months as the extreme cold make the hair very dull and dry. It is extremely important to take care of your hair. Massage your scalp with natural hair oils like coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil, castor oil to keep your hair nourished, healthy and shiny.
A lot of people suffer from severe dandruff related problems. The best way to eradicate this problem is through the application of fresh lemon in the root of hair skin before washing it.
